The increasing worldwide threat of cyber-attacks has grown to the point of drawing government attention here in the U.S.
Astra's study claims an average of 97 cybercrime victims per hour. This means there are 2328 cyber attacks per day, and 33 billion accounts will be breached in 2023. It is also predicted the next five years will experience a cybercrime increase of 15%. The costs will reach 10.5 trillion by 2025. The government and Biden Administration are taking this matter seriously with the National Cybersecurity Strategy. Its goal is to "secure the full benefits of a safe and secure digital ecosystem for all Americans."
With the rise of cyber threats, it's crucial for organizations and businesses nationwide to have national support for the safety of their networks and infrastructures. It is also essential for businesses to prioritize their own network’s cybersecurity. Unfortunately, only some organizations have the appropriate resources to maintain cybersecurity properly. However, this government-released approach promises more awareness and funding for cybersecurity matters.
The National Cybersecurity Strategy is an organized plan released by the Biden Administration on March 2, 2023. The strategy is aimed at the federal government for cybersecurity goals and objectives. The plan outlines how the federal government plans to issue businesses roles, resources, and responsibilities to increase cybersecurity in the nation. The government wishes for more constructive, coordinated cyber defenses backed by the best resources possible.
The strategy's vision includes enabling priorities such as defense mechanisms, resilience, and aligning values amongst all parties involved. The way they plan to carry out this strategy involves five pillars of collaboration:
Expand the use of small cybersecurity requirements
Enable public-private collaboration in critical infrastructure sectors for public and national safety
Increase in harmonized regulations to decrease the burden of compliance
Defend and modernize Federal networks
Keep Federal incident response policies updated
Utilize scalable mechanisms in private sectors to cause disruption and address ransomware threats.
Prioritize the most vulnerable to cybersecurity threats
Build a more trustworthy digital ecosystem by promoting the privacy and security of personal data
Liability for software products and services and
Ensure Federal grant programs promote secure infrastructure investments
Lead the world in the innovation of secure and robust technologies/infrastructures
Reduce systemic technical vulnerabilities in internet foundations
Increase strength against transnational digital repression
Expand diverse national cyber workforce and cybersecurity R&D for next-generation technologies
Reinforce responsible state behavior and national collaboration in cyberspace
Partner with international coalitions to stand against threats to digital ecosystems through collaborated preparation, response, and cost imposition
Prepare partners' capacity to defend themselves against hazards in peaceful and critical times
Businesses will uphold more responsibility for their network and infrastructure’s cybersecurity. More funding will be gathered via the Federal government for businesses across the nation to ensure their security. If the new cyber precautions and protocols are not carried out and misrepresented, businesses face the threat of legal action.
The National Cybersecurity Strategy wants to promise a safer and improved digital future. Focuses are set on placing more emphasis on software supply chain risk mitigation and pushing cloud and other internet infrastructure service providers to boost the priority of securing infrastructure use against criminal behaviors. The Administration released this strategy this month, so we will be updated on how the objectives of this organized plan are intended to be carried out in the upcoming months.
