CNY Chapter of Education Non-Profit Gets Zoom Rooms to Transform Global Impact

Reading League Development Director Anne Marie Smith was looking for solutions to support the non-profit's rapid worldwide growth.

She needed communication technology to allow her staff to teach, coach, and mentor teachers around the globe. That's when she discovered the many possibilities offered in video conferencing rooms.

A Mission to Transform Learning Around the World

The Reading League is a non-profit with a mission to provide teachers around the globe with resources to enhance their lesson plans in teaching kids how to read.

“We focus on pushing out a giant base of knowledge called the Science of Learning,” explained Anne Marie. “It helps teachers effectively teach reading and makes their students much more successful in the classroom.”

Video Conferencing Platforms to Play a Crucial Role in the Mission

With a large number of international contacts and chapters in 33 US states, the Reading League's need to communicate with all corners of the globe was no small task.

“We’re really trying to make an impact around the world,” said Toni Ann Walsh, Chief Programs Officer at The Reading League.

Professional development specialists needed the capability to meet virtually both one-on-one and in groups with collaborators. Through fully integrated Zoom rooms from Usherwood, they discovered the possibilities of modern video conferencing technology.

“This brings the capacity of connected learning and integration into what we’re doing,” Toni said.

A Two-Phase Project To Meet Unique Needs

This project didn't come about without complications, explained Usherwood Senior Project Engineer Mark Weigelt.

Phase I of the project involved two rooms including a large room that Weigelt equipped with HP Poly Studio X70, and a small room where he installed a Poly X50.

Phase II involved installing Windows-based videoconferencing equipment for a large room.

Since this was a large conference room with a ceiling that had partial open and partial drop ceilings, separate audio equipment in the space was a must.

Through these Polycom video conferencing solutions, The Reading League staff would be able to hear and be heard no matter where they were sitting in the conference rooms.

Facilitating Growth for Global Reach

The timing of getting the video conferencing room systems was critical as the Reading League’s growth was outpacing its technical communication abilities.

“As we work to push the Science of Reading to make sure that we understand the idiosyncrasies and the rules within it to inform transformation in school districts,” continued Anne Marie, "it’s really important that we can communicate well."
